Feeling Crafty

For the last couple of weeks I have been feel really crafty. I've been looking at a lot of ideas online and just keep saying - wow, I wish I could do that or make that.

I've been interested in learning how to knit or crochet for quite a while now. I'm really not sure which one I'll end up learning how to do. I put a bunch of books on hold at the library, hopefully they'll help me decide! We have a few stores around here that offer lessons but it seems like every time they have them I'm either out of town or can't go for some reason or another.

Yesterday I FINALLY attempted my first piece of Jewelry. Since right before Christmas I decided that I was going to begin making jewelry in the new year, as a new hobby. I had no idea how expensive of a hobby it was going to be at first. I've spent the last two months using coupons and collecting items on sale to get enough to get my started. Well last night I went to make my first piece, a bracelet, and realized I don't know how to tie a wire knot. I have instructions in one of the books that I have and think I need a few other pieces before I can make knots. SO .. my bracelet is only 1/2 made because I didn't want it to fall completely apart.

One of my biggest problems when it comes to all of this ? I HATE reading instructions. I'm an impatient woman. lol I think that's why I'm so good at making adorable cards because I can just kinda do whatever I want. I know that with most of these projects it would just be a matter of learning how to do it the first few times and then I'd be able to do it without instructions. It's just getting past that point. lol

If anyone has any favorite crafting blogs they read, let me know! :-)

  1. Look up TheKnitWitch on youtube. She has some excellent videos on how to knit & crochet. Knitpicks is a good one too. I wish I had more time to devote to crafty things. I love to knit and am working on improving it. I can't wait to see your jewelry piece when your finished. I've made alot of jewelry in the past. Haven't made anymore since having Grayson. I'd like to learn some new skills.

  3. I've seriously started just craftster stalking people and adding their blogs to my reading list. lol. Craftster is also awesome for getting help and inspiration.

You WILL get past that point and be a pro in no time. It sucks following directions, but eventually you'll get it! :)

  4. Well...I use to love tons of crafts but have since decided to limit myself to knitting and crafts that suit a particular need. I wish I knew of a good blog/website. Umm Ravlery is a good knitting site but it doesn't teach you how, and How to Knit is good site. Great close up videos.
